Favorite and least favorite deformity?  Post [1]

I have no idea if there is already a thread on this if there is mods feel free to lock or delete.

Ok so last night, This question came into my head. What's your favorite deformity??

My favorite personally is Lon's deformity because i feel it's the closest to the original. Also I really like ALW stage deformity, although it's only half the face it's still really convincing.

My least favorites are, Claude rains and ALW movie. Claude's was only like around his eye, What?? And Gerry butler still looked sexy with the deformity, he's supposed to be ugly, That's the whole point of the story!!!

Your opinions?

My favorite deformity is either the original (from the Leroux novel), or the deformity from the ALW stage musical. I like those two because they are the most realistic. Moreover, I think the deformity, when you see it, is supposed to freak you out a bit, and those two do that to me.

My least favorite is definitely Gerard Butler's, because it just looks like a bad sunburn, and that is not what the deformity is supposed to look like. Erik is supposed to be exceedingly ugly without his mask, but Gerard is still incredibly sexy. So, yes, his deformity did not do anything for me.

Best : Lon Chaney

Worst: Gerry Butler

I would have said Claude Rains was the worse but for the fact that in his story he was supposed to have been deformed by acid, hence the less horrific aspect of a mere burn. Butler on the other hand, was supposed to have had "hardly a face" as Christine laments to Raoul...but his "distorted, deformed" visage is hardly worthy of her hysterics.

Best: Lon Chaney, ALW stage version and Herbert Lom's version. And of course the way it's described in Leroux's and Susan Kay's novel.

Worst: Gerard Butler, Claude Rains and Julian Sands (he wasn't even deformed!)

I've always wondered about the Charles Dance version. You can kind of see a little bit of it in the flashback scene of him as a little boy. He looked like a little Wolfman.

Best: Leroux/Lon *sigh*

Worst: 04 movie and 89 movie

In the RE version, Erik's face just looks like one of Mr. Enguland's previous roles (the Nightmare on Elm's Street films).

Like always, I am agreeing with Viktoria! But what eles is new?

Best is certainly Lerox and Kay and Lon Chaney. All similarly explained.

Worst is 04 and 89 movie (even though the 89 one sorta freaked me out)

Best stage production I'd say is ALW's Phantom deformity...

If I can't hear the music, and the audience is gone,

I'll dance here on my own.

I completly agree, If i unmasked the phantom and he looked like he did in the 2004 movie I would have been very happy, hey he's still hot!

My faves are original and ALW stage musical and, sorry to disagree, but I actually kind of liked the '04 movie's, but now that I've seen the musical, I saw how downplayed it really was.

The worst is the '98 movie. (He's not even deformed!)

Best: Leroux, of course! It's the original deformity. And the Chaney one looks closer to Leroux.

Worst: Julian Sands. Gerry Butler may look sunburned, but at least he had something.
