I was in it! I was one of the dancers in a community center production. I really loved it! It was about two years ago, so I'm a little shady on the details.

Really? Who did you play, and what was it like? Was it a school production, or a professional one?

BTW, can you please try to make your posts longer? Thank you. :)

I just saw "Guys & Dolls" a few days ago at our school. The cast did a wonderful job singing and dancing. They put in a lot of time and effort into the musical, as well as trying to balance homework and sports. Yikes.

I loooove Guys & Dolls. I've been in it, and have done solos from it for other things. I understudied Sarah Brown, but played Agatha the Missionary, but our director let me be kinda skanky...lmao.

I showed up randomly (in my Mission costume!) with several guys. And at the end, I ended up with a random gambler, but ditched him for Benny Southstreet. It was kind of funny...

But I watch the movie like, once a month, because I love Marlon Brando in the role of Sky. And Frank Sinatra's just amazing. I love the music; it's probably some of the best in musical theatre history...

...because come on, who's never heard "Luck Be a Lady" or "Bushel and a Peck"?! :)

has anyone ever sung you a lullaby? you can fly above the rainclouds, close your eyes
let the melody carry you, leave all your fears behind
and float across a rainbow sky to once upon a time...

I've never seen it on stage...I wish I could. But I love the movie!!! Mostly because of Frank Sinatra. I have to be the biggest Frank Sinatra fan! besides my grandma... we share the love. :D anyway I think my favorite number in the movie is Luck Be A Lady though.

I saw it on the West End (in London) last Christmas. It was amazing. Patrick Swayze is now playing Nathan Detroit. We had the gorgeous Nigel Harman as Sky and he was amazing. If you haven't seen a professional viewing of it, you just have to. It's fantastic. I love the songs.

I've only seen it in film form, which I love! Whoever would have thought that Marlon Brando could sing?! I tend to tell myself I'll only watch a little of it, then, suddenly, the wedding scene is there, and I've racked up another viewing. My absolute favorite is Michael Kidd's "Luck..." number; I think he's an amazing, distinctive choreographer.

Everything about the film works for me. Jean Simmons is a surprise, Stubby Kaye is great as always, Brando is dazzling, Vivien B is a very funny Adelaide, and the myriad character actors are a lot of fun.

I'm sure this one is good on stage, too, but I'll take the film!

Patrick Swayze as Nathan?! Hmmmm... That's oddly interesting casting.

Mmm...I never saw that version. But the one that came to Manchester back in March had Brian Capron and Claire Sweeney as Nathan and Adelaide. Both of those are former soap actors, in England (Brian as a serial killer - Richard Hillman - in Coronation Street; Claire as a sexually confused and totally naiive single mum - Lindsay Corkhill).

He was amazing; she was wooden.

We did a version at my school...I was Agatha. Yes, a missionary. *cough*issotheoppositeofamissionary*cough* And the girl we had playing Adelaide, a girl called Debra Blank, was incredible. Seriously. She played the role so much better than Claire Sweeney did, and Debra's a year younger than I am.

*shrugs*

Anyway. The gist of this very weird rant/post is that I adore this musical. I know all the songs and actually have the soundtrack to the original Broadway version, too. :)

Fianlly!

My best friend was in his local theatre group's version at a local Texan theatre. Well, since he lives so far away, I couldn't go see him, but he told me he would get me the DVD of it. ANd it FINALLY came in!! Ilove it!

If I can't hear the music, and the audience is gone,

I'll dance here on my own.
