Invalides rue Pierre Leroux  Post [1] »

Invalides rue Pierre Leroux

Modernly furnished, this 19th century apartment is about 60 square meters. This beautiful apartment is located rue Pierre Leroux in the 7th arrondissement at the very border with the 6th.

Living Room

Being largest room of the apartment, the living room is used quite often as a place of lounging after a long day. At 22 square meters, the living room is floored with a burnt orange colored tile. The walls have various in-wall shelves that are utilized for picture frames and a few keep safes. Down the longest wall of the room are four windows that let in natural light from the gorgeous courtyard below. At night the decorative light fixtures in the center of the room fills in the dark space, mimicking natural light. There is a couch and a lounging bench across it with a simple wooden table in the middle. Sometimes a vase of flowers are placed on the table for colors. There is a fireplace with a framed mirror above it. A television hangs on the walls, but it’s rarely used; besides it is awkwardly place to the left of the couch. Eventually, when the money is saved and the time is right, a piano would be able to find its way in the apartment. The living room is connected to the dining room and kitchen for a party of four, but additional bar stools add four more seats. There is a small countertop bar that is the barrier between the dining room and kitchen.

Kitchen

Going along with the modern design, the kitchen is white with stainless steel accessories. The ten square meters of kitchen space is covered in a dark black-gray slate color. There is a bay window that offers a view of the central courtyard outside of the apartment. If that does not provide much light, then during the day the window above should. At night there are a few circular spotlight lights on the ceiling; accompanied with the living room’s light fixture it would brighten the room after daylight hours. There is a door that leads out to the terrace which also connects to the bedroom. The kitchen has an oven, a vitroceramic stovetop with a extractor hood, microwave, fridge and freezer and dishwasher. The counter is a simple gray top that has a toaster and a coffee maker against the wall. There is a built in pantry for extra storage. It’s not exactly a problem, but the washing machine and dryer are located in the kitchen so dinner can’t be made at the same time the biweekly load of laundry needs to be finished.

Bedroom

At eleven square meters this bedroom is fairly simple with white walls and hardwood flooring. There is wooden support decorating the level and depth change in the wall. There are built in-wall shelves with a few frames and a few items that tend to stay there instead of in a draw such as a brush or comb or a few folders of papers. A night stand and a dresser are the other two pieces of furniture that adorn the room. There is a closet and if the door was open, behind the door would be the A/C system and control. Three other doors exist: the one to the veranda, one to the bathroom, and one back into the living room.

Bathroom

The entire room is covered in a gray-blue-green tile. The sink follows the modern design of the entire apartment. The cabinet that is in the mirror holds the clutter that would usually be on the counter. There is a shower and bathtub with a shower head. There is a toilet in a hidden corner. There is one major problem with the entire bathroom overall: there were not blinds for the windows the overlooked the courtyard. Eventually blinds were installed for more privacy. With a few more built in shelves there’s storage for towels and other bathroom essentials.

Terrace

This special place has a table for four to look out to the city of Paris or down to the courtyard. It goes along the side of the apartment and leads back into the kitchen. Both doors that lead out to the porch have a lock on it, but who would be crazy enough to climb the walls of a courtyard to get in? The area easily gets grimy from rain and downpour from the roof, but a mop kept in the kitchen closet makes life so much easier.

OOC: Second first post in Kip and Ella's apartment! For Kip and Ella. Happy Birthday, Kip! :D BIC:

Gabrielle West

This was like a vacation from the past 6 years. Or maybe the past 6 years were a nightmare. Still, she sat in bed next to her husband hoping he couldn’t tell she was thinking so intently about this. This past week was perhaps the most relaxing of her two weeks back in Paris…it was a little under a month that she was reunited with Kip, and now they were staying together, trying to rebuild what they had before. In their early relationship, she had to overcome a lot of insecurities and fears from taking that risk when she committed herself to Kip. Now she was sitting on the other end of that equation. Here was a many who loved and devoted so much to her, and she had to challenge all of their trust in each other. She had yet to tell Kypton about her other engagement. For now, she spent time ignoring it. She hadn’t found the time to sit him down. Maybe she was trying to find the perfect time to even share something so horrible. Once she could tell him, she could work on resolving the engagement with Dan. She worried that Kip would question her promises to him and that she was just in their marriage for the wrong reasons. She wanted to make sure when he found out, there was no such intention behind her hesitations…she feared the moment that she’d have to sit at the other end of that conversation waiting for his answer.

In the meantime, she decided to find reasons to celebrate. And while they missed Valentine’s day together, but they were able to celebrate his birthday. She had an entire morning planned. She arranged to have brunch ready on the roof of the Opera House by 10 am. She just had to stall and have him blindfolded when Joel would send a car to their apartment to pick them up. After a few misguided turns so he wouldn’t know where they were in the city, she would lead him up to the roof. Maybe he’d figure it out once they get out of the car, but she was most excited to just spend time with him that morning. She thought of all of the other birthdays they had missed. He missed her 30th just barely. Moments that they missed were moments she wanted to make up to him today.

She didn’t have to get him out of the hours until 9:30 am, so she had a solid two hours, but she was hoping to keep him in the apartment until then. She could easily see him wanting to get an early start today, but she could promise herself that once they left elsewhere they would miss the roof appointment. Hopefully, he was up for an adventure, she knew this week was difficult adjusting back into a slower pace for his job, but she knew all of his ideas would be utilized later. Kip was very patient, but perhaps this is the most eager she’d seen him.

And rightfully so, his face would be glowing when he’d come back from work; he was excited about a change in pace. In a way, they switched roles from their early apartment days. Most of her work kept her home, composing; strict deadlines, but more free time. His work brought him into the office occasional, but he was typically out of the house moments after she’d wake up; collaborative and teaching aspects were flooding his time. When they did see each other at night, she’d have food ready for dinner, he’d bring home some groceries for the next day, and they’d just talk about anything and everything. Well, maybe not anything. Kip hadn’t bothered to ask again about Dan, and she had yet to strike up the courage to say anything. Now wasn’t the time.

She snuck out of bed to get ready. She looked over her shoulder and Kip didn’t seem to stir after she got out of bed. She pulled her hair up to wash her face and put in her contacts, brushed her teeth, combed out the tangles, and hopped in the shower. Today was such a nice warm morning. The high was in the 60s, she was hoping they’d see the upper part of that range. She was sure that Kip was awake by now since the sun was coming out behind the clouds. She wondered if he had anything in mind for today. He told her that anything she planned was more than enough, but today had to be perfect.

Just as she got out the shower, the doorknob tried to turn loose, but it was locked, “Just a minute…”. She grabbed the towel to dry off and to dry her hair. She pulled the towel into her hair into a twist tie for a moment. Slipping on her robe, she grabbed her pajamas and threw them in the hamper. When she opened the door, some steam came out of the bathroom. She saw Kip sitting on the bed; waiting for her to get out. A proud smile snuck onto his face, he seemed a bit playful for the morning…maybe it was because she just had on her robe. Chuckling to herself, she pulled down her hair from the twist towel and combed her fingers through her wet hair. Hanging the towel inside the bathroom, she came back around the corner and walked over to sit on Kip's lap, “Happy birthday!” she whispered as she wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him on the temple, resting his head against his shoulder, “How’d you sleep?” She knew he got in pretty late for a Sunday night, so she’d hoped his day off would be a bit more restful for him.

Kypton West

Life off the road was very different. Kypton had wanted to slow and that’s exactly how he would describe it to anyone that decided to ask him. He had spent the last six years, touring almost every three months or so. He could typically be found inhabiting the nicer sweet of a higher end hotel, walking the street of a bigger city looking at models (he enjoyed building them in the nonexistent spare time that he had- it fueled the engineer that still lived behind the artist). But most of the time he had been seen on stage, at charity events, in interviews or at album signings. It had not been a lifestyle for a married man and Kypton knew that if Ella had tried to go on the road with him, eventually she would have gotten tired of it. She hated flying and Kypton spent a good portion of his life in airports or on planes. Honestly Kypton had gotten rather fed up with all the traveling as well. It had come down to either staying in LA to work at local fine arts school where he would direct a choir of kids belonging to some of the wealthiest families on the east side of the city, or it had been Paris. Something had compelled Kypton to come back to Paris. Perhaps it had been the memory of Ella herself, or the hope that maybe if he went back to where it had all begun she would somehow find her way back to him. He had purchased the apartment from Ella without her knowing, it had been her name and now it was in his. Only when they had run into each other in Washington D.C. had it occurred to him to that his dream of fixing things between might actually come true.

This past week had almost been a realization of that dream. It was if the last six weeks had never happened. They had settled into a routine. Kypton went to work at the Opera House for a few hours every day, came home and had lunch with Ella, usually played with their still unnamed puppy, and headed back to the Opera House in the afternoon to teach private lessons. He enjoyed the private lessons the most. The one on one interactions with individual performers made him feel like he was actually making a difference for someone. Life at the Opera House was slow considering the off season, many performers were on vacation and Kypton enjoyed it that way. It gave him an opportunity to wander the place and really get to know it. On the other hand, Ella seemed to spend most of her time at home composing. Occasionally Kypton would spend a morning with her composing, there had been talk of doing a piece together and trying to get it in an upcoming film but it was only talk. The oddest part of all of it was that it seemed like the last six years had never happened, they had never been apart even though they had only just been reunited almost three weeks ago. It had been pleasant falling back into such a routine with Ella. He had enjoyed making dinner together, sipping wine out on the balcony while they laughed at the antics of their little puppy who seemed to roll around the open area more than waddle on her tiny, still slightly clumsy legs.

Kypton especially enjoyed his days off. Though he was a morning person he appreciated the opportunity to sleep in occasionally. On top of that he had gotten back from the Opera House a little later when a student had wanted to meet with him around 8pm as opposed to their typical 5pm schedule. Kypton normally would have just pushed it to the next day but he had a feeling Ella was going to plan some thing for his birthday. Yet the fact that she was planning some thing left a pang of guilt in his stomach. As he had climbed into bed next to her the previous night he had been reminded of all the events they had missed out on together. Birthdays, anniversaries, Christmases… and many other holidays had been spent on the road for Kypton. Sure the orchestra and people he worked with had made the celebrations enjoyable and he had spent a few Christmases with his parents when time permitted but he had missed Ella most of all during those times. She had gotten him a nice watch the first year of their marriage and though he never wore it anymore he had taken it out and stared at it, thinking about the woman he had let go. The woman that had needed him and he had walked out on when she need him most.

Kypton woke at the sound of the bathroom door closing. He laid there in bed, staring at the ceiling thoughtfully before he pulled from his meditation by the sound of scratching at the balcony door. He got up and let the dog in before returning to bed. If he didn’t have to get up he didn’t want to be. He walked over to the door, to see if he could get in to get a drink of water and maybe join Ella if she was so inclined but it was locked. “Just a minute…” the sound of her voice made his heart skip a beat. He still wasn’t completely used to having her here. A few times he had come from work almost surprised to see her there. At times he was worried he would wake up one morning and she would be gone and he would realize that it was all a dream. As Kypton thought about this he grabbed the paper off the kitchen table, clearly Ella had already grabbed it, and he laid back in bed, reading it lazily waiting for Ella to come out.

The door opened a few minutes later to reveal the beautiful woman he had married. He stretched and smiled to see Ella standing there in nothing but her robe and a towel wrapped meticulously around her hair. He glanced at the clock and was satisfied to see that he had slept in past his typical 6am wake up call. He brushed his hair out of his face and moved to the end of the bed as she neared him. He allowed himself to look her over with pleasure, the robe slightly obscuring his view of her body but still he could see the slight curve of her waist and thighs as he wrapped an arm around her lower back. She seemed happy and that made Kypton smile, he was certain this was going to be one of the best birthdays yet. He could tell because Ella let out a soft laugh as she gazed down at him. “Happy birthday!” she whispered softly as she kissed his head and he rested his head on her shoulder, she smelled clean and the warmth that still emanated from her skin made her closeness all the more inviting. She made him feel younger than his thirty six years. “How’d you sleep?” she asked and it seemed almost a trivial question as all he wanted to do was take in her that moment and show her just what she meant to him. They hadn’t yet slept together since moving back in to the same apartment. It was almost as if a mutual but silent agreement had been reached between them that it would happen the moment that it was meant to and they wouldn’t rush.

He laid back down and pulled her down next to him so they were laying side by side. He gazed into her eyes for a moment and then smiled. “I slept well… and it seems you did too… with the minor beating I received from you feet last night…” he said playfully as he kissed her on the nose; remembering in that moment that he was still thirsty. Kypton got up from the bed, rolling away from her with a teasing smile. The moment his feet touched the floor he felt the dog go for his toes, she was certain to conquer the enemy as she nibbled on the end of his slipper which he had quickly slipped his feet into to protect them from the onslaught of the canine’s attack. “You know Ella… we really should name her…” he said, scratching the dog behinds the ears as she of course tried to nip at his fingers. “Also, I would love to run some errands later today…” he informed her, it might be his birthday but Kypton wanted to make up for all the birthdays he had missed of hers. He intended to surprise her with a nice dinner later that week. It was the least he could do for her. He loved her and he wanted her to know it.

Like the sound of silence calling I hear your voice and suddenly I'm falling lost in a dream
Like the echoes of our souls are meeting you say those words my heart stops beating

Gabrielle West

Kip always surprised Ella. He was unpredictable but protective of her sanity. He challenged the way she viewed the world. Dan had always agreed with Ella, be it big or small, he always appeased her opinion; she wondered if this agreement was always genuine, but it was always safe. Kip brought warmth and whimsy into her life. Such joy enhanced and seeped into her life. Despite the separation, she had learned and craved these feelings with or without him. It gave her that freedom to be herself. It created the trust she felt between them when they started to date. When she’d moved in with him, a lot of things in their relationship were so natural.

Kip had pulled her down beside him as he lounged back into the bed. He looked at her brazenly. Moments like these were always unspoken and tense. She knew she wasn’t ready to be intimate with Kip just yet. A mixture of self-betrayal and guilt would fill her mind...there was no freedom of giving herself in that. She wondered if it was apparent or if Kip just always thought she wasn’t ready because of their time apart. He didn’t know the half of it. Just how much she wanted to tell him.

That lunch where she was supposed to deny Dan completely derailed. Dan actually surprised her for once. He was understanding, not happy about the fact that she had snuck away, but understanding. He knew where she was: with Kip. He didn’t want to talk about that; instead, they spent the lunch talking about business back in Paris and a bit about her trip in LA regarding her residency offer. That night he proposed his idea of a proposal: he’d ask her five times that week, very sure that the first time she wasn’t going to give him the answer that she truly meant. Ella didn’t have the heart to tell him she didn’t want this at all and that no matter how many times he'd ask, she'd have the same answer. However, it only took three times for her to break under the pressure of the moment. They spent the night planning the next week, the next month, and even dared to discuss their move back to the States; Gabrielle just sat there disappointed with herself for not being assertive with her feelings. She was never consistently clear; especially with Kip, but if she knew what she didn’t want, she would say something. The awkward circumstance and loyalty Dan brought to the table challenged her into a corner of silence, and he didn’t really notice the difference. Perhaps oblivious to her tendencies, Dan just liked the idea of marrying someone sooner or later. It didn’t feel like anything had changed in his mind when he even did look at her. She questioned if Dan even knew what the proposal meant in terms of the future. She figured this was only a set back in letting him down easy. That night she sat in bed, reviewing what she’d explain to him...there was nothing to worry about.

The next morning just as she was ready to tell him, Daniel’s mother called. It was his father. He was ill and they were unsure of what was going to happen. Daniel canceled his meetings for the week, rescheduled two weeks into the week after he'd come back from Boston, and flew out that afternoon. He kept the hotel reservation for her, told her he’d had to come back to Paris two week later..maybe three to finish up in DC. She tried to have him keep the ring because the band was just a little too snug. He told her to keep it and they’d get it fixed when he was back. Perhaps, that moment was very telling that he wasn’t thinking about her in his life the same way Kip would. She felt like their engagement and potential marriage would be a convenience. These realizations tore a little at her…for even putting Kip through that uncertainty when they first ran into each other broke her heart.

The courage it would take to break things off with Dan needed planning and thought. He would be coming back from a full week of meetings that have piled up on his plate. Dan was very clear with what was going on in his life. He’d call to check in on Ella when Kip was away. Once she received a call from Dan in front of Kip, but it was an accidental butt dial, so she played it off as a telemarketer. Another lie. Those were stacking up against her. Dan also emailed updates on his father to her…Jackson, or Jack, had already wanted her to call him Dad. Great…more people to disappoint. She’d never actually met Dan’s parents, but she hoped she wouldn’t have to go through that humiliation anytime soon.

No, none of that mattered today. Today was her husband’s birthday. This was the first they were able to celebrate together in a long time. Today was definitely bittersweet. She wanted to show him how much he meant to her today. How much she wanted to devote herself to him. He was worth it. Since the beginning, people blamed Gabrielle for only wanting his success and his talents. They didn’t know the small details that she found endearing; but also these details could easily drive her mad just thinking about them. How he’d stare at the keys of their piano for twenty minutes, she once impatiently asked what he was thinking in those moments, hoping he would have helped with the dishes; instead of reacting to her displeasure, he simply replied he loved to see that some things in the world never change. The moment would always take her back; his mind was so simplistic.

In their early outings just when they were getting to know each other; he’d fiddle with her fingers if he grew a little nervous around her. He never admitted his nervous tick until they ended up living together. He replaced the tick with pacing and staring out of their balcony window. It didn’t matter, whether they were arguing, caught in the moment of a miscommunication, or just unsure about what the other was trying to say; he’d revert to one of his nervous habits. Sometimes she'd point them out when he was in denial of his one-track thinking. Those moments were filled with talking it out, sitting and cooling off, but mostly just trying to settle down.

The day they grew comfortable with each other was the day they realized that regardless of what happened down the road in their relationship they really were meant to spend their lives together. Surely enough, life took them down a crazy back road, but they still made it back to each other. Maybe that’s why she figured she could put off telling Dan later…instead of just sending him an email, giving back the ring when he did get back to Paris, and hoping to never see Daniel Myers again; she figured that she could just wait to do that properly because she knew that Kip was always there to tolerate her mess, she felt secure in their relationship regardless of the circumstance. They had been through so much. Their time of separation has been longer than their relationship. And yet, they still were here. They came back together. She knew she hadn’t said she loved him just yet, she hoped he just knew. They haven’t had sex; which was kind of killing her, but not as much as it probably killed him. It was her end of the conversation that would push those moments of intimacy off, but she wanted to enter their relationship again, honestly and fully. That was difficult to do with this huge lie hanging over her head. She wanted to blame Dan, but this was on her. She needed to just tell Dan. She was close to it too; sometimes, she'd spend some afternoons sitting at the computer trying to write an email or staring at the phone trying to find the words to say; hoping to just magically dream up a message. She wasn’t ready yet. This week was about establishing a routine with Kip…they have been getting used to the idea of living together. A lot of things were off the table.

They spent the past two weeks getting used to another person in their life…getting used to each other. Parts of their spiritual, emotional, and physical attraction picked up where they left, but others took time. The trust they had cultivated needed to be redefined. The rhythm of their lives was so far off when they first moved in. When they had arrived back to the apartment, most of Kip's things were barely moved back into place, most of Ella’s things were back at Dan’s just outside the city; they spent the afternoon unpacking. She started to bring things back into the city, and soon enough it felt like home again. Her things went back to their natural drawers or shelves, but some of the things were missing; like the picture he kept was no longer on their mantle. It was a little worn around the corners and he kept it with his books for now. Perhaps the only thing that was exactly the same was where the piano sat. Music was the constant in their relationship. It was fitting. She had bought a vinyl player turntable three years ago. Collecting and just playing records was almost therapeutic, especially when she started to live on her own. Now, she brought in her collection into their apartment and she’d sometimes spot Kip picking out a record to play. Something about that idea felt natural and homey. Sometimes he’d come home with a few new records as a surprise. He’d ask her to dance with him and she shyly agree. Their sweet little pup would sit on the couch watching them twirl around. Other times the pup would want to dance with them, following their heels and waiting to be picked up. Those moments of just being together and almost being a family helped her sleep at night with the part of her heart that was buried with little Evelyn.

She pulled Kip close to her; he was warm and smelled like home. She nuzzled closer to him as a smile curled at the corner of her mouth, “I slept well…and it seems you did too…with the minor beating I received from you feet last night…” he teased. She scoffed then smirked a bit to herself. Touché, she thought as she rolled her eyes, You're lucky I didn't kick you off the bed...He kissed her scrunched up nose as she batted her eyes and bit her lip. Her heart quickens knowing that he was so close to her. There was something so natural about the way Kip loved her. She couldn’t place a finger on it, but she was determined to spend the rest of their lives trying to give back the love she received from him. She felt at home with Kip. This feeling had been missing from the past six years and she was determined to do everything for the sake of him.

She glanced at the alarm clock when he rolled off the bed. 9:15 am…She had to make a bit of an effort to get him out of the house now, “You know Ella… we really should name her…” he said as he reached down and held their puppy. She thought for a moment of their little Evelyn. A small young life back into the relationship. She pushed aside the ache in her heart, “Also, I would love to run some errands later today…” his voice drew her back to the present. She propped herself up on her elbow looking up at the little pup. She took the small dog in her arms.

She smiled to herself as she placed the little one on the bed. She pranced around on the huge pillow of a bed. Ella snatched her quickly before she fell off the bed, the pup didn't know the different between the bed and the floor; and nipped at Ella's arm. Just out of the teething stage, the puppy tried to defend herself. Ella pushed her snout a bit, “Heyy…” she scolded, “Don’t...No.” The dog still disregarded her scolds and she let the little one loose over the edge of the bed, “She’s certainly got a mind of her own…” she looked back at Kip, “But I still do love the thing to pieces.” She assured as she pondered a few names off the top of her head, “Lacy…Lulu…Lucy…” she hummed to herself, “There’s something endearing about little Lucy, yeah?” She kneeled on the bed, pulled him closer to her by the arm; her fingers interlacing into his. He stood just over her gaze as she wrapped her arms around Kip’s neck, running small circles with her thumb through his hair. His gaze seemed to agree with the name choice. She shrugged the thought off for a bit, “You know, I have a few secrets up my sleeve for today, but I think we can squeeze in a few errands. Be ready in 10?” she asked as she reached up for a simple kiss, “I have an early surprise for you.”

OOC: I don’t know how I will ever live up to the glory of that post but here it goes! BIC

Kypton West

Kypton laid there next to the woman that he loved, gazing into her thoughtful brown eyes with his own brown eyes that were just as thoughtful. Life felt perfect as he reached out and stroked her cheek and smiled to himself. Perfection was some thing that Kypton had never really known in his life. He run away from home at a young age to avoid a music career that was clearly inevitable now that Kypton looked back on the whole affair. Yet he was head strong and he had needed to come to the realization himself, the understanding that he had been born with a talent; from who his parents were not certain. But he sang beautifully and there was no since in not using it. Kypton of course had utilized it to earn a living as he’d roamed from country to country and he had been fueled by the desire for adventure and excitement took him all over Europe. He had learned so many different things, skills that he didn’t use now. Occasionally he would catch himself recalling a memory. He especially recalled the time he had spent on the coast of Spain. The African food, mingled with the Hispanic culture had been pure bliss. Kypton had spent much the time with an old Spanish woman by the name of Maria who blew glass, she had taught him her trade in exchange that he come and sing for her, Spanish songs of her heritage. Some of the songs she had taught him had made it onto his albums; they added a nice flare that reminded Kypton all that he had been through to get to where he was.

Yet none of those sweet memories compared to his reality. Perfection. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. So Shakespeare had written and Kypton felt those words as he held the woman he loved in his arms. He wasn’t sure what she had told Dan and he didn’t want to ask either. At times he caught her gazing into the distance as if her thoughts had swept her off into a distance place. It was unusual. Ella had always been a very present person when it came to their relationship. He wondered what she was thinking about in those moments. Maybe it was Dan. Maybe she regretted her choice? But it was moments like the one they shared now that assured him that she was happy with him. He was better for her anyway. He’d had someone look into Dan, especially his working habits and Kypton could just tell that he was too stiff for Ella. He supposed that was the right word. Ella needed someone that was relaxed and spontaneous to make up for her lack of both traits. It wasn’t that Ella wasn’t spontaneous and fun but she took life very seriously and she needed someone that found many things to laugh about. Kypton believed that he was that person; he had always had a creative and optimist way of looking at the world and with Ella he enjoyed it even more. It was as if she was seeing the world for the first time with him and he wanted to experience all of that with her and only her.

He had loved every moment of getting used to having her back in his life and of being surprised by not only the things that had changed, but the things that hadn’t. Ella still nagged when he would play the piano as opposed to washing the dishes. Yet there were new things, like dancing to the record player that Ella had purchased when she had lived alone. She always seemed hesitant to participate in such antics but Kypton had knack at persuading, it also helped that he was a good dancer. They would sway gently to the music with the lights turned down low, the sound of the music wafting through the air and enveloping them in feelings of nostalgia and intimacy. Kypton would whisper in her ear sweet nothings of how he loved, or he would change the words of the song to fit their relationship or put her name into the song as a singer spoke about love. His favorite was Can’t Help Falling In Love sung by Haley Reinhart. It was a newer song but Kypton had pulled some strings to get it made into a vinyl record and had surprised Ella with it when he came home for lunch one day. He liked the way the woman’s voice to lilt and jibe with their movements as he twirled her out and spun back in, feeling her body close. Yet that was as heated as things got before the new addition to their family decided that she needed to be danced with. Kypton would often scoop her up and they would sway just the three of them. The little dog seemed to complete their lives, she just fit right in and Kypton wondered if she was part of the reason the transition was going so smoothly.

Yes it was all perfect. Except the fact that Kypton was turning thirty six today. He was now on the downhill slide towards forty and that made him groan anxiously. He didn’t like this feeling of getting old. Even more, it made him think of how he had wasted so much time living without Ella. First he’d lived thirty years of his life before meeting her and now he was almost forty and he felt like he was renewing the fight for her love and trust once more. Granted he felt like he was winning that fight. Dan was out of the picture and Ella seemed to trust him a little bit more every day. Slowly they were rebuilding their life together and it just felt right. Even if she did try to kick him to death while they slept. A habit he teased her about in that moment, kissing her playfully on the nose, trying to assure her that he really didn’t care; even if there was a nice light colored bruise on his leg as evidence of the assault. He watched her as she picked up the puppy and put her on the bed after he suggested they name her. They’d had the poor thing for almost a month they still hadn’t been able to settle the matter. Sure they had talked about it but nothing felt right. Kypton was determined that they would figure it out today, this morning; birthday accomplishment number one… even if he was almost forty he could say that they had named their dog. It wasn’t much to lay claim to but Kypton could rest easy knowing their nameless puppy had an identity outside of the little terror that would steal his left shoe and chew on it until Kypton rescued it from the dog’s sharp little teeth.

Kypton watched with amusement as the dog almost fell off the bed and plunged to its death. Okay maybe it wouldn’t have died but it would have been a shock. Kypton watched as the pup tried to bite her savior and Ella scolded it without hesitation. “Heyy…” she scolded firmly and Kypton appreciated the fact that she could be firm but tender. It was a good motherly trait. Motherly. Kypton almost hated himself for thinking the word. He didn’t even know if Ella would want to try and have another baby. The possibility of losing a second child left him feeling sick and it wasn’t even a conversation they’d had. “Don’t...No.” Ella’s continued scolding brought Kip back from some rather painful thoughts and he smiled as the dog squirmed away and fell to the floor, Kypton heard her little paws on the carpet as she ran out of the room to lap up water with a great deal of enthusiasm from her bowl. “She’s certainly got a mind of her own…” she commented and Kip nodded his silent agreement. They were all rather independent souls in this house weren’t they? “But I still do love the thing to pieces.” She said as if she was trying to convince him and Kypton smiled. He knew that she loved the thing to death. If it came down to Kypton or the dog he wasn’t sure he would win very easily. The cute little rascal had Ella wrapped around her paw and no matter what she did Kypton knew Ella would always love her. “Lacy…Lulu…Lucy…” she seemed to muse to herself and Kypton winced at the idea of naming a dog Lacy… but there was some thing about the name Lucy that had a nice ring to it.“There’s something endearing about little Lucy, yeah?” she said, almost verbalizing her thought verbatim and Kypton smiled. “Like Lucey In the Sky with Diamonds.” He remarked, thinking of the Beatles song. Their last puppy had been given the name of Mozart, it seemed only fitting that they continue the tradition with their new addition. Lucy fit the dog perfectly.

Ella pulled him close again and he appreciated her initiation. At the beginning of their relationship that would have been a very difficult thing for her to do. It had been something they had taken slowly and at her pace. He knew that them not having sex had everything to do with the fact that she wasn’t ready. For whatever reason, she had hang ups but Kypton was willing to be patient and wait as long as it took. They did have all the time in the world. He wondered if it was time to renew their vows. Maybe he would broach the subject later but right now he had to face the fact that Ella probably had some thing planned for his birthday. He was distracted momentarily from his musings of doom and the onset of old age as she wrapped her arms around him and tried to kiss him. He shivered with pleasure as she ran her hands through his still untamed hair. He gazed up into her eyes thoughtfully as she smiled down at him. Life was beautiful… she was beautiful and she was all he could think about. “You know, I have a few secrets up my sleeve for today, but I think we can squeeze in a few errands. Be ready in 10?” she asked as she bent down to kiss him and Kypton nodded, returning the kiss gently and sitting up; he did need to shower and get ready anyway. “I have an early surprise for you.” she told him and Kypton groaned exaggeratedly, as if her statement as caused him pain. He felt a pillow come flying at him but he dodged it and tossed back standing up.

“Please promise me you haven’t done too much… its your day off too…” he reminded her, even though she worked at home he knew how much she valued her spare time. “Besides today just means I’m getting old; pretty soon I’ll have a hearing aid and won’t be able to climb the stairs… then what will you do with me?” he teased and with one last kiss he headed into the bathroom to get ready. He was happy as he showered and he sang a song he was working as he did. Higher Window he called it. Ella was helping him to work out the kinks in the music and the instrumentation of the piece but the general melody was there and he had finished the words last week. Just because he wasn’t touring didn’t mean he wasn’t still composing and writing new music, especially with Ella by his side, was one of his greatest pleasure. He got out of the shower and shaved quickly. While he and Ella had been apart he had been careless with his facial hair but now that they were back together he kept himself clean shaven for the most part. It made kissing her easier and that was one of Kypton’s main priorities in life right now.

He threw on some jeans and a flannel red and black shirt. He couldn’t help thinking he looked a little western but the flannel was nice and it was the first thing he had seen when opening his side of the closet. It warmed his soul to see Ella’s clothes neatly hanging next to his. When was the last time it had been that way? Kypton couldn’t remember. He finished buttoning up the shirt and quickly combing his hair. He threw on some cologne that he knew Ella went crazy for and then went out into the living room, looking around wondering where his wife had gone. Lucy came bounding up to him, as happy to see as if he had been away on a long trip. “I was only in the shower…” he said with a laugh as he sat down on the couch and began to put his shoes on. The dog of course, tried to bite at the laces as he tied them. He still couldn’t’ figure out where his wife had gone and that amused him. It wasn’t like their apartment was huge. “Ella…” he called, the amusement clear in his voice. “Ella did you get lost…” he asked as he walked to other parts of the house looking for her. Where oh where had his Ella gone?

Like the sound of silence calling I hear your voice and suddenly I'm falling lost in a dream
Like the echoes of our souls are meeting you say those words my heart stops beating

Gabrielle West

Gabrielle worked her mind from the angle of many assumptions. Just as many minds do, she collects the facts she holds to be truth and forms her opinion of the world. While this view may hold truth for her mind, others may view her truth differently. The phrase of her truth remained key in this statement. Others would never know exactly how she felt; others may try to sort and find similarities, but what Gabrielle knew was what she knew. No one can change that. She knew she struggled with trust. She knew she struggled to process her experience into logical thoughts. She knew that her husband sometimes could hold her thought process more accountable than she could. She knew that Kip recognized these things, and didn’t simply point them out, but challenged her to see the good and bad from these assumptions. Kypton is probably the only person who could truly change her perspective on the things she held to be her truth. She once thought that she struggled with trusting herself, but learned that the risk is worth the payout in the end. She once believed that only her logic could save her, but eventually saw the good in vulnerability and honesty with herself and others. She once thought she’d never be able to rediscover the love she lost…but Kip proved her to be wrong time and time again. Especially in these last few days.

For that, she was thankful. His delicate hand in her life guided her towards her best self. He had the guts to call her on when she’d pigeonhole herself into fixed beliefs. He inspired change in her; while subtle, these changes still provided a refreshing perspective. All in all, he allowed a level of grace and femininity into her life that she had been out of touch with. Her jaded vision of directive commands and control were poor counterfeits of fear and manipulation. Her gentle nature seemed to enhance the control she regained in her own life. The freedom his care provided was like a haven. He preserved the warmth and heart of her. It was never a question of who was in control in their relationship, but rather what can I learn from this moment…how am I being loved and loving in this moment? Their independence cultivated opportunities to challenge and grow together.

Returning to these intellectual and personal growth moments revived her faith in their relationship. Perhaps that’s why it hurt all the more when she continued to hide the one detail that continued her practice of distance. She’d always ask what hesitations she had if Kip did know the truth. Perhaps he’d be most disappointed in her for not being honest. She was comfortable with the idea that he knew of her devotion to him regardless of their past separation. She figured there was a good chance he was legitimately mad at both her and Dan for even considering the engagement despite Ella’s choices the night of the proposal…and she made it clear to Dan that she knew he was going to propose that night at lunch; all the signs were there, but she still chose to find Kip that night. That’s another detail Daniel didn’t seem to understand. She grew nervous at the thought of both men in the same room. She couldn’t even fathom the end result of that conversation, argument, or worse. One would think that she had a plan for all of this. Honestly, her plan continued to change as her courage continued to wane in the situation. Ella was great at brainstorming details, but the execution of those details needed to follow. Luckily planning a surprise for Kip was one of those things that never changed.

In fact, planning this getaway was the simplest part of her week. Talking to Joel on the phone felt like the old days. Certainly, they cleaned up the wrong leg they started on and decided to start fresh for Kip’s sake. She’d scold him gently for working her poor husband too hard in order to hopefully get him the full day off. It had been a Monday after all and most of his work was loaded at the beginning of the week, so Joel clearing his schedule was already amazing. At this point, Kip probably expected to go somewhere different and adventurous for a day off. Gabrielle figured she’d not only go back down memory lane but find simplicity in the little things their lives brought to the table. She had planned to bring Kip back to the roof for a nice brunch. The weather caught a break from the cold winter, and a solid 57 degrees only maintained an upward trend in the afternoon. She figured she’d get the surprise out of the way this morning in case he did have something to work on later that evening and they could get ready for another early morning the next day…back to life after this mini retreat, but it was well worth the time they would spend together.

Upon revealing that there was a birthday surprise at all, Kip gave a classic eye roll. He should expect it after all this time. He always worried that she overworked himself when she planned something for him. She just wanted him to know how much she meant to him. She wasn’t the best with her words, but acts of service and time spent spoke volumes for her; hopefully. His teasing wasn’t going to stop her sassing back at him. Slashing the pillow through the air towards him, he caught on and seemed to anticipate her signature defense mechanism. He knew her so well. He threw the pillow back at her with a playful, yet reprimanding glare.

“Please promise me you haven’t done too much… it's your day off too…” she shrugged casually in response, “Besides today just means I’m getting old; pretty soon I’ll have a hearing aid and won’t be able to climb the stairs… then what will you do with me?” she chuckled as he stole a kiss before heading to the bathroom. Once the door closed, she rushed to grab her clothes from the closet. She needed to meet the driver at the curb and have him stall in the garage near the back door of the apartment. Pulling at her dress, she grabbed her shoes and keys to run downstairs. She had about 5 minutes before he’d be done in the shower. Maybe some extra time, but she did have to make a call in between now and then to check that the setup was finished. She’d hire a few old friends to set up a small canopy, a few cushion chairs, a table, some light brunch items and some bubbly to celebrate this morning with a view of the city. Where they first meet. They kept on returning, but it was their spot really.

She turned to the corner and waved to the driver. He was set. She rushed back upstairs, hoping he was still getting dressed. Sneaking back in the hall, she called her friend and made sure to tell them they were 25 minutes out. She got the message that they were done and just bringing up brunch and the bucket of champagne; then they’d clear the roof for them until they were done. They owed her a huge favor anyways. This was the fulfillment of her help in a no questions asked situation; the grand nature of this favor evened out the score.

She turned the locked door and heard the water still running. She had time. Looking around she thought of what else needed to be done. Blindfold. If he saw the car and which direction they started in he’d know exactly where they were going. She went into the bedroom, the water shut off. She grabbed her scarf from the chair in the corner and rushed out the room quickly. She went outside into the hall and waited to hear if he’d find her after he got ready. She texted the driver to take a long route…maybe take all left turns until they got to what was supposed to be the East side of the city. Anything to make a GPS lose its mind, more or less Kip to forget his location for once…she pressed an ear to the partially ajar door of their apartment, “I was only in the shower…” She chuckled a bit to herself as he seemed to be convinced she left the apartment, “Ella…” She slid the door smoothly open just enough to slide into the room. Luckily he was facing to other wall and sat on the couch getting his shoes on, “Ella did you get lost…”

Without notice, she draped the blindfold over his eyes. A small chuckle escaped her lips. She wondered if his mind jumped, as he seemed a little stiff, “It’s okay…” She assured she grazed her hand over his shoulders after tying off the scarf, “Ready for an adventure?” She went around the couch and waved a hand in his face. No reaction or flinch meant he couldn’t see. Before he protested she placed a finger to his lips, “Yes, this is silly. I am aware. And, no, you have no say in how this morning will go.” She smiled as she took his hands, prompting him to stand. She guided him to the door, “Wait here. Gotta lock the door…Hope you have everything with you…” she teased in a sing-song voice. Directing him down the stairs was more manageable than she anticipated, but getting him out the back door was interesting. She felt him hesitating, “Okay, turn this corner…yeah, seems familiar outside?” she asked, “Now, stop.” In front of the car, “And duck you head…and sit. There you go.” She encouraged. She gently tapped the partition. The car started to move. As they started off down the road, she could see the gears in his mind tracking each turn. She took his hand in hers, “I’m here.” She cooed as she placed a hand on his leg, scooting closer to him, “I would stop counting turns if I were you.” She teased, kissing him to maybe distract his mind, “Just enjoy the ride.”

OOC: End Scene. Off to the Roof BIC:

We were angels once, don't you remember? Joys in life, inside our souls; and nobody knows, just you and me. It's our secret.
And your child-like eyes, and your distant smile; I'll never be this happy again! You and I. And no one else. || Maybe he'll come today. Maybe he came already...
