Why Not  Post [1]

Since the fire, why don't they just move over to the Palais Garnier and finally film it, so it would be authentic???

Alas a dream of mine.

It's a lovely thought, but I expect the Palais Garnier is scheduled for at least a couple of years ahead. They are currently taking bookings for events through until July next year.

Maybe one day, I hope at least someone else besides us are thinking of it.

It's not an easy show to move to another venue. We saw that with Phantom 25 at the Royal Albert Hall. I'm glad to have that recording, because it's about 90% of what I think of as the "real" Phantom, i.e. the stage show. (As opposed to the 2005 movie, which... wasn't.)

But I did miss that other 10% which they couldn't do at the RAH. For example, the flying chandelier - and for me, it's not even the crash that's the big highlight, it's at the auction when the "dead" chandelier comes to life with the start of the overture, and rises up. I love that, every time I see it. No trapdoors in the floor for quick Phantom disappearances. No angel sculpture descending from the proscenium They couldn't accommodate the Masquerade staircase. The orchestra was above the stage, which made for some awkward staging when the Phantom was high up...

Well, you get my drift. Putting on Phantom in a theatre not adapted for it is difficult. And RAH was a big event, which they wanted to look good. I'm afraid Phantom at the Garnier is something which can only exist in our imaginations. At least there, we can get it right....

That is so true, as much as I love RAH, some important things were missing, at least IMO
