Whenasecret falls-thanks for your permission to think what I want. I thought that was what I was doing.

Now back to my original thought for anyone who might like to respond. *If* you believe it is Erik who's haunting the opera house, why do you think he would remain there? From what I understand of ghosts, there's usually a malevolence that keeps them within a certain place or there's a tragedy that keeps them within a certain place.

Erik was redeemed by Christine. While he was in love, he still went and died in peace. There was no tragedy or malevolence to keep him at the opera house forever.

Hopefully all of you realize that Gaston Leroux's novel is a work of fiction. It is only told from the perspective of someone who knows the story to be true for the sake of presenting Erik as unusually cogent. The tale takes place in an imaginary universe in which the phantom and narrator are real. No one would be able to live under a building that sits on a lagoon due to the extreme humidity in a confined area. Also, Erik would never get away with secretly constructing a home in the opera house. It would be impossible to hide from the rest of the crew. Ghosts are just for fun like vampires and goblins are. Old structures are prone to strange noises and drafts due to decreased insulation and shifting rafters. There are often popping sounds and vibrations that mimic knocking and footsteps and air movements that seem like whispers.
